Interprofessional Education Online
Interprofessional Education Online
OnlineIPE.com is a consortium of 4 Canadian universities (McMaster University, University of Western Ontario, University of Ottawa-Elizabeth Bruyere and Laurentian University) that have combined their expertise, knowledge and skills to create an online virtual network of Interprofessional Education (IPE).
Interprofessional education (IPE) and collaborative practice refer to learner outcomes with a focus that IPE occurs not only when health professionals learn with, from and about each other, but also when they interact with each other, with their patients, and with their colleagues towards a common goal of improved collaboration and enhanced care.
The Institute has developed an online IPE curriculum for health professional students and clinicians, and as well, has developed interprofessional facilitator training materials.
The interprofessional courses were developed primarily online to overcome timetabling conflicts of students and clinicians from various health professions. Modules can be completed asynchronously or in real time with other students/clinicians. Eliminating barriers in both the educational sector and in the health care industry leads to improved patient care, enhanced communication skills and allows the working environment to function more efficiently.
