CIHR Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Interprofessional Education & Practice in Health
University of New Brunswick Saint John
CIHR Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in
Interprofessional Education and Practice in Health
The University of New Brunswick invites applications for a Tier II Chair in Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPE&P) in health under the Canada Research Chairs (CRC) program. Applicants for this tenure-track faculty position should have demonstrated research accomplishments as well as an excellent publication record in a relevant discipline in the area of interprofessional education and practice in the field of health care. Depending of his/her area of expertise, the successful applicant will be appointed to a position on the Saint John campus in either the Faculty of Science, Applied Science & Engineering (http://www.unb.ca/saintjohn/sase/) or the Faculty of Arts (http://www.unb.ca/saintjohn/arts/).
The Canada Research Chairs (CRC) program was established by the Government of Canada to enable Canadian universities to achieve the highest levels of research excellence in the global, knowledge-based economy (http://www.chairs.gc.ca/). Tier II Chairs are for emerging researchers (less than 10 years from completion of their Ph.D.) that hold or are eligible to receive CIHR funding. Applicants should demonstrate potential as leaders in their field, a strong (or emerging) national and international scholarly presence, an excellent teaching and graduate supervision record, the potential for attaining significant external funding, and a commitment to collaborative research. Recipients are eligible for infrastructure support through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The Chair will participate, with a reduced teaching load for the duration of the CRC, in graduate and undergraduate teaching within the Faculty.
This Tier II Canada Research Chair in IPE&P is intended to focus on the evaluation of education and practice programs that involve multiple health care disciplines. The infrastructure and resources are in place to support this initiative. The four partners in education and practice (Horizon Health Network regional health authority, Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, New Brunswick Community College allied health programs, and University of New Brunswick) are co-located at the Tucker Park campus of UNB Saint John. The organizations are linked through an increasingly complex web of formal and informal relationships known as the Tucker Park Collaborative. The health professional education programs in Medicine, Nursing, Health Sciences and Allied Health are all well established. Interprofessional health care practice teams are actively working in the region with patients who are receiving team-based care. Each partner organization is committing human and other resources to increasing the amount of health research that is being done in the local area. The timing is exceptional to add the evaluation process to this work to confirm that interprofessional practice and education are indeed of benefit to patients, families and health care professionals locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.
While the successful candidate will be appointed to a department within the Faculty of SASE or the Faculty of Arts, she/he will be expected to promote interdisciplinary research and teaching, show leadership in the future development of Interprofessional partnerships at the university, and work with the Tucker Park Collaborative to strengthen relationships between the University and the health care community in the province.
This tenure-track appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications, and will be conditional on the successful candidate being approved as a Tier II Canada Research Chair. Candidates will have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, demonstrated expertise in an area of program evaluation in interprofessional education and practice in health or related area, an outstanding record of research accomplishments, and a strong potential to become an international leader in his/her disciplinary area. The initial appointment will be for five years with the possibility of renewal for a second five-year term.
Candidates should send a curriculum vitae and a statement outlining their past research and future research plans, and the contact information (including email address and telephone number) for three referees to:

Review of applications will begin September 1, 2011. The selected candidate will be required to work with the Faculty of SASE or the Faculty of Arts in Saint John and with the Office of Research Services to prepare a competitive nomination package for submission to the CRC by April 2012. If the application is successful, the anticipated start date is January 1, 2013.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Applicants should indicate current citizenship status.
