President of CAIPE

Professor Hugh Barr

Hugh’s main role is to open and maintain channels for communication, exchange and mutual support nationally and internationally between activists in interprofessional education (IPE). He does this through lecturing and writing at home and abroad as President of CAIPE, Joint Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Interprofessional Care, Editor of the Wiley Blackwell/CAIPE series ‘Promoting Partnership Health’ and as a Board Member of the International Association for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (InterEd). His recent research includes systematic reviews of IPE with Dr Marilyn Hammick and others, and currently he is researching the historical development of IPE.

Much of his time is divided between King’s College London, St George’s University of London with Kingston University, and the University of Greenwich, as Visiting Professor in Interprofessional Education in each of these institutions, and the University of Westminster as Emeritus Professor of Interprofessional Education and Honorary Fellow. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2006 from the University of Southampton for his seminal role in promoting interprofessional education nationally and internationally.

He was previously an Assistant Director of the (UK) Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work (CCETSW) and Special Professor in Interprofessional Studies at the University of Nottingham.
