Current position and interests

Julia is currently working as a Specialist Nurse for Child Protection in Berkshire East Primary Care Trust. Responsibilities include supporting staff in all areas of safeguarding children and implementing the ‘

Every child matters’ agenda. Julia sits on many of the sub-groups for the Local Children’s Safeguarding Board including education and training and is very involved with interprofessional and inter-agency training throughout the area.

Other relevant experience

Julia qualified as an RGN at The Middlesex Hospital in London, followed by Midwifery training and worked for a number of years in the acute sector including A & E and as an Infection Control Nurse. She trained as a health Visitor in 1997 and held a number of different roles within health visiting including Community Practice Educator.
Following completion of an MA in Education Julia was seconded to Reading University as a Lecturer Practitioner and Director of the PIPE Project (Promoting Interprofessional Education). This was a HEFCE FDTL4 project looking at preparation of facilitators for Interprofessional Teaching across the Thames Valley Strategic Health Authority area.

Research Interests

Interprofessional Education in health and social care and collaborative working, Preparation of facilitators for IPL, Domestic Violence and child abuse.

Contribution to CAIPE

I hope that I can make a positive contribution to the CAIPE board both from my experience gained with the PIPE project and my extensive involvement with IPL in practice.
